The Benefits of Postoperative Cryotherapy
Localised Cryotherapy

Did you know that whole body cryotherapy stimulates your body and helps it regain its own ability to recover? Cryotherapy has therefore been shown to accelerate surgical recovery by reducing inflammation, pain and complications as well as reducing bruising and the formation of scar tissue.

How Does It Work?

Cryotherapy exposes your body to extreme cold temperatures for 2-3 minutes – the dry, cold air shocks your body by lowering your skin’s surface temperature and stimulating receptors. This treatment promotes healing by stimulating your body’s natural response to decrease inflammation and pain. Cryotherapy releases endorphins into the bloodstream, which relaxes the body and removes toxins. It also slows cellular metabolism, which reduces secondary tissue damage and decreases swelling.

Why Use Cryotherapy After Surgery?

A temporary but unfortunately unavoidable side effect of any surgical procedure is the postoperative period of pain, swelling and bruising. These painful side effects can be combatted with the healing results of whole body or localised cryotherapy. Postoperative cryotherapy can promote:

  • Faster wound healing
  • Less time in the hospital
  • Less risk of post-op complications
  • Less need for pain medication
  • Faster recovery

Cryotherapy is more effective, comfortable, efficient and powerful than regular icing. Cryotherapy takes 2-5 minutes (as opposed to icing, which can take up to 30 minutes) and it is also safer for the skin’s surface, as the moisture content of ice can lead to frostbite or cold ‘burns’.

Cryotherapy is a safe, effective and efficient solution for postoperative healing and recovery.

Whole Body Cryotherapy

Whole body cryotherapy

We deliver our whole body cryotherapy via a cryosauna machine – a safe, single-person device that encases your body and keeps your head and neck exposed. Postoperative clients will see a reduction in pain and swelling in all areas of the body, including the surgical site. Whole body cryotherapy also promotes mental wellness by triggering an endorphin release, which is great for combatting the emotional distress that operations and the postoperative period can cause.

Localised Cryotherapy

Localised cryotherapy

Local cryotherapy is the application of very cold air to particular parts of the body that are experiencing pain, swelling, inflammation or bruising. Unlike whole body cryotherapy, which uses cold temperatures to stimulate receptors all over your body, localised cryotherapy treatments target specific areas of the body. Localised cryotherapy works much the same way as whole body cryotherapy, but can promote more powerful results due to its targeted nature.
